Introduction
The diet craze has taken a completely new dimension. The need to cut weight or maintain it is driving people all over the world into adopting astonishing eating habits. Dieticians, in a bid to rake in profits, have been busy on the drawing boards designing new diets by the day. While some of them are hardly effective, a few actually work. A good number of these diets have been scientifically approved but some require a little imagination. Nevertheless, they have worked for many people. Five controversial diets have worked for different people, and this is surprisingly cool – who knew a controversial diet can actually work?
Diet #1
Atkins Diet Plan
Atkins is praised as the most controversial diet that delivers the best results. It’s primarily a low carbohydrate diet. The principle of Atkins diet is that you can lose weight by eating a lot of fat and protein, and the food you eat must not have high protein. Before it became popular, Atkins diet was considered the most controversial diet of all time. The mainstream health authorities argued that people could not lose weight through this diet because of high content of saturated fat. However, studies were conducted to test whether or not saturated fat is harmful. The results were surprising. Studies showed that saturated fat, no matter the concentration, is completely harmless to human health. Since then, the diet has become common among people, and it is the most popular controversial diet that help people lose weight today.
Atkins diet has four phases:
- Introduction: You must eat less than 20 grams of carbohydrate every day for 14 days. Food content must have high fat and high protein. This will help kick start the weight loss process.
- Balancing: After two weeks, start adding a small amount of fruits back to your diet. Add some nuts and low carbohydrate vegetables.
- Fine-Tuning: At this point, you are close to your weight loss goals. So, you should add carbohydrate to your diet until weight loss slows down.
- Maintenance: Eat as much carbohydrate as you want, while keeping an eye on your weight so that you don’t gain it back.
Diet #2
HCG Diet
HCG diet is absolutely the 2nd most controversial diet of all time. This is the truth about this diet; take it or leave it. The Food and Drug Administration even has a code name for it: a dangerously illegal diet. Even the speed at which it causes the body to lose weight is purely dramatic. If you haven’t tried this diet and you already know that the FDA doesn’t approve of it, you might not want to use it. You might want to think again; HCG diet is actually a perfect solution for those who want to lose years of weight in just a few days, and it has worked for many people to say the least.
HCG diet plan is quite a simple one, and it usually has two main stages:
- The loading phase
- The maintenance stage
The loading stage
You must take as much calories as you can before taking the hcg supplements orally or injections. When you start taking the HCG drops or injection, the calories will reduce to a minimum, and your body will still use the energy. HCG will prevent the absorption of fat into your body system and use stored fat to give your body normal energy.
Maintenance Stage
This is where you go back to your normal diet routine and you quit taking HCG supplement. Do not take many calories immediately, because the body will need time to get used to the normal diet.
Diet #3
Fasting Mimicking Diet
This diet involves a weekly arrangement.
- You eat whatever you want for five consecutive days.
- For the remaining two days of the week, you cut down on your calorie intake to about 500.
This was the program a couple of years ago. This is why it is referred to as the fasting mimicking diet. You are not actually fasting but you manage to reduce the calories you take for a period of two days.
However, this kind of arrangement has been reversed. There are 5 good days of low calorie intake and two days of sumptuous eating. Scientists at the University of Southern California are responsible for the development of this rather controversial diet. They proved that this diet is effective in the reduction of weight but it is far much healthier than actual fasting. The five days in which you fast have a composition of foods that mimic fasting because they contain very few calories. It is as if you are fasting but you don’t feel deprived of food. It is a healthier way of losing weight.
Diet #4
Bulletproof diet
Then, there is the bulletproof diet. It is rather controversial in that it allows for the intake of fats. Well, one may argue that there are good fats and bad fats. However, fats are fats, especially if you are intending to lose weight or keep from being overweight.
- The bulletproof diet has a regime in which you take up to 60% of the so-called good fats on a daily basis.
- It involves the intake of 20% of proteins while the rest is from vegetables.
It is a version of the controversial Atkins diet. However, it includes a daily dose of bulletproof coffee. Bulletproof coffee is not your ordinary beverage. It is black coffee but with butter in it. How butter and coffee can coexist in the same culinary environment is neither here nor there. The diet was devised by a billionaire who probably had no qualms with butter. Although there is no scientific explanation to the effectiveness of this diet, it does work! If you have access to lots of butter, you can try out this bulletproof diet and see the results for yourself.
If you think the bulletproof diet is controversial, you have not seen the bespoke diet. While looking at fad diets, we create work for some people but do absolutely nothing about others. Israel scientists pin this diet to the microbes in our guts; thus, the name the bespoke diet. This is a diet that has been specially designed to suit your unique biological makeup. For this reason, you will be in a better position to have your health improved if you undertake this special diet. That is what the scientists say, and you got to believe them.
You are wondering how to tell how your body responds to different foods. Worry no more, thanks to a computer algorithm. You will be able to determine which foods to eject from the diet and which ones to retain. For people whose levels of glucose tend to shoot through the stratosphere after eating bread, they have to drop the bread altogether. Nevertheless, not everybody can adapt to this diet. Presently, only Israelis – the chosen race – can use a computer algorithm to determine what to eat and what not to eat. This is possible for them via an app on their cellphones.
Diet #5
DASH diet
There is yet another controversial diet: the DASH diet. DASH is an acronym for dietary approaches to stop hypertension. The main aim of this diet is to keep high blood pressure at bay.
- Then diet lays emphasis of whole foods such as whole grains, vegetables and fruits – and anything that is not processed. T
- he diet leaves out anything sugary or salty or even artificial. This diet, though controversial, is scientific. Studies published in Archives of Internal Medicine, Diabetes Care have shown that the DASH diet is effective in combating high blood pressure, heart failure and stroke.
This diet is, however, more unpopular than controversial. You most likely have never come across it. You may even overlook it and try other alternatives because it sounds unpalatable – no sugar and no salt. However, if you are at risk of high blood pressure or stroke, you will need to embrace the DASH diet.
