Studying, classes, working, internships, and maintaining a social life can take its toll on a college student’s energy. These 8 steps will help you feel refreshed and energized.
1. Exercise.
Exercise is the best fix when you need a fast energy boost. Bike across campus for 20 minutes or take a brisk walk. The energy boosting effects are nearly instant and can last up to two hours. Exercise increases endorphins and endorphins are mood boosters. With a little exercise, you’ll have more brainpower to complete your paper, and you’ll be happier to do it!
2. Sleep Schedule
Cramming at all hours of the night can destroy your energy level. Maintain a regular sleep schedule and ensure your body gets enough rest to function efficiently.
3. Indulge in a power nap.
A 30-minute power nap can provide you with an instant boost of energy. If you don’t have a half hour to spare, a 10 or 15-minute snooze may provide enough energy to power you through the rest of your day. Napping not only boosts energy levels, it also increases your ability to retain information.
4. Eat Well
Maintain a balanced diet. Avoid unhealthy foods that are laden with fat, sugar, and preservatives. These foods make you feel groggy after eating them. It’s okay to indulge in a piece of chocolate every now and then. But eating microwavable macaroni and cheese and cinnamon buns every night adversely affects your energy and school performance.
5. Turn Off the Tube
If your typical fix for end-of-day exhaustion is to plop down on the couch for a Netflix marathon of House of Cards, you're not alone. Most people think that watching TV is a restful activity, but television itself can be tiring. Instead of numbing your mind as a way to rejuvenate, stimulate it by spending time outside, reading a book, or listening to music.
6. Eat Often
Throughout the day eat five small meals. This helps keep your metabolism and energy functioning at optimum capacity. Heavy meals deplete your energy faster since your body has to work harder to digest the food. Even if you’re short on time, which of course you are, avoid skipping meals. You can accomplish this by carrying granola bars and fruit in your school bag to snack on in between meals.
7. Peppermint
The strong, refreshing scent of peppermint can help wake you up. Try a peppermint candle, oil, or air freshener. It can help relieve stress, revitalize energy, and make you more alert.
8. Online Study Tools Can Save Your Brain Energy
Students often lose energy and feel exhausted because they do not take advantage of available tools. Here are the four tools we think every college student should check out:
• Boom Essays can help kick start any school project. They can help with writing projects, building your resume, and editing your papers.
• BenchPrep is an intuitive learning experience that has a game-based system to help you learn your course material efficiently and effectively. Yes, games and they’re fun!
• StudyBlue has digital tools and study materials for just about every class you can encounter at college. No more staying up all night making flashcards, StudyBlue makes them for you.
• Essay Roo is a professional writing online agency. It is your one-stop writing solution specializing in researching, writing, and editing.
With these easy to use tips and tools, even the most overscheduled, haggard student will start feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Students, put that book down for 20 minutes, take a short brisk walk, have an apple, and plug in that peppermint scented air freshener and you’ll feel ready to tackle the world.
