Though a common skin problem among teenagers and adults, people suffering from acne often feel frustrated. Fortunately, you can keep your acne in control by getting accustomed to some habits. However, there are certain things you should avoid doing if you are in an acne situation and if you don't want to make your skin become even worse. This doesn't mean you won't be in position to repeat them again. You will, but at first there are lifestyle changes you must make to deal with your acne. Have a look on the things you are not supposed to be doing if you are an acne victim:
1. Blame Yourself: acne didn't develop because you did something or failed. Acne jus happens. Some people are prone to acne whereas others are not. In deed, acne forms due to genes. It has been shown to run in families. If your parents were prone to acne, chances that you will suffer from the same are higher. Instead of blaming yourself, look for the best acne treatment approach.
2. Picking Your Skin: though difficult for many, picking at your own skin if you have acne will only make it worse. The main reason why people do it is for it to get away at once. Although gently popping at a pimple once in a while won't do much harm, constant picking or forceful squeezing can make it worse. If you can manage to fight the temptation of picking, you will soon realize that your skin improves.
3. Overworking Your Skin: this entails over-cleansing or scrubbing your skin. Use of harsh scrubs, abrasive exfoliating pads and over-cleansing will cause damage to your skin. If this sounds like what you are used to, stop it at once. Such practices can be irritating to your skin, increase inflammation and tear off top pimples. They can cause a stinging or burning sensation coupled with redness. Gentle scrubs and mild exfoliations are the recommendable practices.
4. Getting Lured by Myths: sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between the facts and myths. If you can find the truth about acne, its formation and treatment, you will be in a better position to keep it under control. Dirt cannot cause acne. While there are claims that diet can cause acne, doctors are still questioning the notion. Though researches have been conducted, there is no scientific evidence to back the same. Acne can disappear naturally but it can also be treated.
5. Spending Money on Instant Cures: there are several products in the market promising to treat acne in an instance. These include herbs, supplements, creams and vitamins. You may get lured in to believing that they will work and you end up trying a number of them in vain. Don't look at how professionally made a website appears. These products will hardly make acne disappear. Majority of cosmetic products with claims of eliminating acne only keep it under check. Stop spending your hard-earned cash on products that will only give you questionable outcomes.
6. Get Overwhelmed by Acne:. You are well prepared to go for an event like a party or a date but all over a sudden you change your mind because you have a bad breakout and don't want to meet your friends. Acne can influence how you feel about yourself, making you feel less self-conscious, ashamed or frustrated. Well, to some extent, these feeling could be normal. You should never let acne hold your life captive by dictating your social schedule. Consult your doctor if you feel helpless.
7. Interfere With Your Treatment: you are in need of a clear skin and you won't stop at anything until you get it. But you are doing things that are sabotaging your treatment unknowingly. All you need is consistency in treatment. Ensure you follow your treatment detail as directed in the product of your choice. Avoid mixing or jumping from one product to another because you can see any change after some time.
8. Skipping Dermatologist Appointments: most people go for over-the-counter skin brightening products whenever they realize a break out. Though nothing wrong with trying the OTC products, it can be difficult to pick the correct one on the first visit. However, it is worth consulting a dermatologist if you have used OTC product for 12 weeks without success.
9. Allow Other People Make You Feel Inferior: at times people can do or say things that can hurt your feelings. Whether it is a comment or an advice about your skin, it can be a big blow if you have weak self-esteem. Never let other people have power to control your own personal feelings.
10. Assuming Treatments Won't Work: it is difficult to remain positive and hopeful especially after trying several treatment options in vain. You naturally want to give up, but that is normal. There are hundreds of treatments in the market today. May be you have not found the right one yet. They may take a little longer than your patience can hold.
However hard you have tried to deal with acne, there should be no single moment you should lose hope. If need arises, consult a dermatologist to find out the best way forward. You now know the things you are not supposed to do if you have acne. The best thing about acne is that it can be cured.

Hello Ruby,
Welcome to the EmpowHER and thank you for addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of dealing positively with acne.
Indeed, a serious case of acne can have a very negative impact on an adolescent's self esteem. Physically, serious acne can leave permanent scarring.
