Wondering why my vagina is sensitive?

Hello,

My vagina used to get really sensitive before I had my period for the last couple months, to the point where it was painful to wipe and it was very sensitive and would have a slight burning after, I visited the doctor and he suggested it could be a symptom I get and a hormonal thing.

It went away for awhile and sometimes (like today) my vagina just felt sensitive, I received oral and it felt the same after, I was told it looked a bit more red.

I’m not sure why I experience sensitivity down there randomly? It would be great if someone could advise me as to how to deal with that and why that happens ..

P.S when I say burning it feels more like it’s hot down there’s like burning sensation not a horrible pain I just can feel it’s more sensitive when I feel that.

Thanks

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

Your doctor is right, it could be to you with your cycle (hormones).

Also, make sure the soaps and clothing detergents you use are fragrance and dye free - many women are sensitive to this. Never douche - this is very bad for the reproductive system. The crotch area of underwear should always be cotton.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Thought I have also noticed that there are as they are called micro cuts in my vagina at times, just wondering if that’s due to the way I wipe using toilet paper? And if it’s normal
For there to be cuts.. small ones, that do get irritated if I wipe harshly (I wipe back to front though not near my anus)

Just wanted to ask if that could add to sensitivity? Or if this is a sign that my skin is sensitive and can easily be cut??

These cuts have only begun this year I haven’t experienced them before. What does this mean?

Thanks

Hello Again

The genital area gets thinner as we get older - one reason why this may happen.
Perhaps you can mention this to your gynecologist where an exam can be done.
Best,
