Hi Anonymous

The reason is to check for cancer cells. If there are cancer cells, the treatment required may be quite different than just a UFE, and the UFE could even be contraindicated. This is a protocol before many uterine procedures, even endometrial ablation. They need to rule out cancer and be sure of what you are dealing with before doing any kind of treatment.

If you have further questions about this, I suggest following up with your gynecologist or whomever will be doing the procedure. They should be explaining all of the ins and outs thoroughly before you have anything done or sign any consent.

Hope that helps. Thank you for writing and good luck.
