What kind of a mole is this?

I have a mole on my arm it is small brown bumpy with red. Only the brown part is bumpy the rest is soft. I tried to see if its symmetrical but I'm not sure. It might be a little uneven. It does not itch nor bleed. The edges are soft not rough. It is a bit smaller than a pencil eraser. I have not noticed it before but I think it's new. Could this be something serious?

Hi Bathsheva,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  Here is a list of things to look for when discovering a new mole.

  1. Asymmetrical: When you draw a line down the middle of your mole, the two sides should mirror each other.
  2. Irregular border: Moles should have a definite border. Melanoma borders usually have notches or scallop shapes.
  3. Changes in color: A mole might be dangerous if you notice the color isn't consistent throughout.
  4. Diameter: A mole should be no larger than ¼ inch (6.35 mm) in diameter.
  5. Evolving: A mole that sometimes changes in shape, color, height or texture is suspect. If you develop a new mole and it starts to itch or burn, it could be a sign that it's not healthy

It’s important to be seen a dermatologist if you suspect any of these changes or simply just a new mole.

Best,

Daisy
