Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for your question.

The Mayo Clinic recommends avoiding beverages that contain caffeine, which is an irritant that can aggravate the lining of the bladder.

Water and non-stimulant drinks can help naturally flush your urinary tract system of bacteria, which can help eliminate infection from your body by means of urination. Water also helps to dilute urine, making it less painful to void. The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends consuming six to eight glasses of filtered water daily while you have a UTI. The University of Michigan Health System recommends cranberry juice. The antioxidant properties of cranberries can help prevent bacteria from sticking to the walls of your bladder. Consume 4 to 10 oz. of cranberry juice daily to help reduce symptoms and prevent UTIs.

Regards,
Maryann
