Sudden right hand swelling with small nodules on index finger pulley tendon. Treated with anti-biotics for infection after X-rays, ultra sound and MRI; radiologist suspected cellulitis. Treatment reduced swelling at base of index finger but within a day, finger 4 & 5 became swollen. Treated again with stronger anti-biotic suspecting MERSA. Treatment did not reduce swelling. Now, after about 3 months, the thumb is involved and swollen at the tip above the knuckle. Have seen the following MD's: PCP, hand surgeon, rheumatologist. Blood test are negative for uric acid, arthritis. Currently awaiting blood tests for thyroid; possible pseudogout. Any ideas?

See what your blood tests say, pseudogout is a possibility. Pseudogout occurs when calcium pyrophosphate crystals form in the synovial fluid in the joints. Crystals can also deposit in the cartilage, where they can cause damage. The buildup of crystal in the joint fluid results in swollen joints and acute pain.
So far, it seems you have been proactive seeing various physicians and being tested, which is good. I hope you feel better soon and your doctor can give you a diagnosis so you can move forward with the appropriate treatment.
