hi i've never had a problem with dandruff except now embarrassingly i suddenly have a lot. I think its because ive been studying pretty intensely with exams and tho im obviously still showering every day i just tied my hair up every day and coconut oiled and washed it once a week (i usually wash every other day). I think this lack of washing has caused the dandruff. Will just going back to my normal washing routine fix it or do I need medicated products now?

Guide

Hi, Anon.

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Oil from the scalp causes the skin cells to clump together and appear as white flakes. Dandruff can be caused by a number of things, including dry skin; sensitivity to hair products; and skin conditions such as psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, or eczema. The overgrowth of yeast can also cause dandruff.

For some, hair washing once a week is not problematic. For people with oily hair, more frequent washing is needed. It's different for each of us. See what happens once you go back to your normal hair-washing routine for a week or two before going out to buy medicated products.
