Plan B Early Bleeding now late period.

Hello,

So here are the details of my situation that I am hoping for someone to shed light on. So my period was from the 18th of December, 2014 to the 25th of December, 2014. On the 28th of December at 8:30 my partner and I had sex. (It was the first time ever for either of us). I was not on any form of birth control but we did use a condom. Since he was fairly nervous becoming erect was difficult but eventually he did. Now he didn't fully ejaculate inside of me but we believe he might have a little bit (and the condom had broken). So not wanting to take any chances at about 10:39pm that same night we were able to make it to the drug store and picked up plan-b (two tablets). I took both at once.

Then all was fine for the next few days until the 2nd of January when I began experiencing bleeding (it was a brown discharge), then over the course of the next few days it turned into a darker red and an actual flow. Then it died off and lightened. The bleeding lasted until the 5th with the 4th and the 5th being lighter in flow.

Now here is the issue. It is now the 22nd of January and I still have not had my period. I do not have sore breast, dizziness, nauseousness or any of the other symptoms related to both plan b or pregnancy. I am just wondering what exactly is going on. I know it's hard to say for certain but what are the changes that I am pregnant? When would be a good time to expect my next period? It's four days late than normal. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! :)

Thank You so much! You are so kind and just so thoughtful for taking the timeout of your day to do this for me. I know we all have busy lives but the fact that you do this for me as well as so many others is truly amazing. You are a wonderful person! I really appreciate this all.

Thank you!

Hi LucasBarbosa6,

Consider the bleeding on January 2 as your period for the month.

Calculate the expected date of your next period by starting with January 5 and adding the days of your normal menstrual cycle plus a few days because of Plan B.

Hello,

So I just realized now I made a mistake in my description. I had my period on the 18th of December (2014) to the 25th of December (2014), then I had sex on the 28th of December (2014). I took plan b (both pills at once) 3 hours after the incident. Then on Friday January 2nd at around noon I had brown discharge which lasted until Saturday. When I woke up on Saturday it was a heavy flow and that flow lasted heavy until Monday. Then it became a light flow on Tuesday and Wednesday and was gone on Thursday the 8th.

Just co clarify when should I expect my period to come again? It's now the 2ndof February (31 days after the beginning of the bleeding after plan b) and I am freaking out a bit.

Thank you! :)

Hello LucasBarbosa6,

You can either wait until February 8 and see if you start your period. You stopped bleeding on January 8, so I would start counting the days in your normal menstrual cycle from that point.

If you are really concerned, call your gynecologist's office rather than wait any longer.

Maryann

Okay thank you very much! I'm a little confused though, why would I start counting from the 8th? I realize this was the last day of bleeding but what is the reason for starting the counting on the 8th instead of the 2nd?

Thank you for your patients.

Hello LucasBarbosa6,

Information regarding emergency contraceptives suggest that for most women, their next period should be on or close to when expected. Some women can start earlier or later but not by more than five days.

In your case, since you had bled until the 8th and have not gotten your period yet, I thought maybe when you took the pill, you upset the normal hormonal balance that regulates the menstrual cycle. Logically, I thought consider the last day of bleeding at the start of a new menstrual cycle.

I am not a gynecologist, so this is the best that I can suggest. Again, please contact your physician about this.

Maryann

Thank you very much! You honestly are so encouraging and supportive! Thank you for taking the time to do this for me and many others! I just thought I would follow up with you that my period came today at 2:27pm February 4th! I just thought I would do a follow up with you so you know what ended up happening as one of the most frustrating things is when people don't follow up on what ended up happening!

But it came which is a huge relief! Thank you so much for all your help! :)

Take care Maryann!
