Odd Lactation

About 3 weeks ago I found what seemed to be a zit near my nipple and I treated it like any other zit, but last night it tried to pop it and when I squeezed I found myself lactating. I squeezed again this morning and the same thing happened, (just a drop) and it freaked me out. I am about a week away from my period and was wondering if that had anything to do with it and if it was possible for a woman to lactate when not pregnant. This has never happened to me before so any advise is greatly needed! Thanks!

Hello MT

It is possible to have a breast discharge without being pregnant. We have a page on it: https://www.empowher.com/condition/breast-discharge/definition.

That being said, it is important to get checked out by your health care provider because there are other conditions that can have this symptom, some of them serious. It doesn't mean you need to worry, but it does mean you should be safe and see your provider.

Please let us know how you are. Good luck and thank you for writing.
