I am a 24 - year - old woman. I am healthy other than the fact that I get NON STOP UTIs. I am currently on a prevenatie anti biotic. Before I was put on this I would get a UTI ever time I got off of an anti biotic. After I would finish a dose, a week later, I would get another. Now I have been on a daily does for almost six month, twice per day. And now I just got ANOTHER UTI despite my daily anti biotic. This has now been going on for five years. I was born with a third kidney. It never worked. We thought that was the cause of the UTI and all the pain, so I had it removed. Two months later the pain was still gone but the UTIs returned. That was two years ago. I am very depressed and tired of constantly being sick. I have tried EVERYTHING from changing eating habits, to no intercourse, to not taking baths and only showers, even using anti bactieral wipes ever time I use the bath room. I have even tried stopping my BC. NOTHING WORKS.
I don't know what else to do or why I keep getting UTIs. After over a dozen Uroglogist and sevral surgerys nothing have worked.
Please does anyone know what's going on or have any ideas? I'm tired of living sick

I truly understand the frustration with constant UTI's and the lack of treatment. I too have them a week after I stop antibiotic therapy. I am 77and this issue really effects the quality of life. I had prolapse bladder surgery lift and support with a mesh sling. Surgeon did not promise an end to this issue. I am still having infections, so much so the pain is in my kidneys and my first clue. I have been dealing with this for 6 years. My hygiene is impeccable and do all the proper wiping, cleansing etc. Cranberry juice doesn't help and I drink the pure unsweetened. I would give anything not to have this issue and no cure in sight.

Hello Anonymous,
Welcome to EmpowHER. I am truly sorry to hear about what you have had to endure and still getting urinary tract infections.
I understand you have been on antibiotic therapy and seen many urologists. In addition to the surgery, was any radiologic studies, such as renal ultrasound, cT scan or MRI done?
Unfortunately, I haven't much to offer except to ask if the physicians mentioned or suspected ureteral strictures, ureteral reflux, urinary tract tumors, and urinary tract diversions. I found an article that suggested patients with bacterial persistence should be evaluated thoroughly to exclude potential structural or functional abnormalities.
