Q:

My period is ten days delayed, pregnancy test was negative, still concerned?

I am 25 years old. I was supposed to get my periods on August 21st, since the month before it was delayed by a week plus (supposed to happen on July 13th but happened on July 20th) so I assumed that it will be on August 21st, however, its August 31st and no sign of it still...I have not had vaginal sex but was active and had anal on the third week of August about three times that week, but my boy friend and I washed up and cleaned the areas, used lubricants, and tried to be as careful as we could....and I tested myself this week on Monday, August 29th when I felt it should have come by now and it came negative. Please help me..I am not ready to become pregnant, marry, or anything else. I plan on becoming a graduate student next year and follow my dreams of becoming a professor...thats why I have technically not had the real sex yet as I had wanted to wait for my marriage and now I am nervous and terrified!

Actually after writing the comment, my periods just returned normally. I will take the test again to be sure, but the bleeding has started again. I think I needed reassurance more than anything else and that was the stress that was prolonging the delay for the periods to come again. Thank you!

Thank you, that helps a lot! I took three tests, of one which was ruined so I put the tester directly into the toilet pot and did that twice, both times negative. I assumed that if there were hormones in the urine they would have stayed. I can do it again just to be sure! Actually not knowing plus period delay is just causing me more anxiety. Thanks for answering my question so readily!

Take the test again, this time don't put it in the toilet bowl. It needs to go directly through your stream of urine, preferably your first morning urine. I know not knowing can cause added stress and anxiety but try to remain calm.

Best wishes,

Rosa

Hi anonymos1486,

If you took a pregnancy test two days ago which was negative, then you are not pregnant--just late. Stress, hormone imbalances, etc. could be reasons for your period being late. If you miss more than two periods consecutively, you should visit your doctor to determine why you are having irregular periods.

All the best,

Rosa
