Thank you all for your input. I do take a lot of meds. But none of it is new. I have hypo-thyroid for which I've been taking 2 gr of Armour Thyroid which did very well to get my levels in order. However the company that makes Armour Thyroid discontinued the 2 gr pill. So I was prescribed the same Armour Thyroid but in a 1gr dose and I just took 2 pills. That's when my hair started falling out. I figured the pill wasn't up to the dosage stated. I called my MD and she had me get some blood work. I did and the results showed high levels. Now she wants to cut my dosage. I'm worried because it's becoming quite noticeable. My scalp shows through. My hair hasn't been thick for a long time but this is ridiculous. I want to see a specialist who is very knowledgeable about female hair loss.

I've always led a stressful life so that's not new. I've been eating a lot of fruit and veggies lately but that's supposed to be good for you, right?

Unfortunately I have both diabetes & High blood pressure but both are controlled by medication. I have lost about 20 lbs recently but that's supposed to be good for you too, right?

So, here I am. If there is help out there someone please help me.

Thanks so much.

Hi Peggy...For starters i will say that i was personally diagnosed with an auto immune disorder back in 1998 and lost most of my thick natural hair and since then ive read a book a month and attend nutritional seminars monthly and every day im researching and continually educating myself so i can help others suffering with hairloss as i no first hand how devastating it truly is.....we need to narrow it down a bit. is there a change in diet? wat is your daily diet like and water intake?death or loss in family?job transfer?relocation to a new climate?pregnacy??recent surgeries?recent xrays and or dental work??do you live in a suburb or inner city??is your skin pale, yellowish or ashy?has anything changed in the last few months?are you parents suffering from any medical issuses?are you currently on any medications?wat types of hair, body and skin care products are you currently using?

One hair loss advocate that we have on the site who has her own experience with hair loss because of an autoimmune disorder is TK with New Dimension Extensions and can help women grow their hair back. She also works with extensions to help achieve fuller hair. The end goal, however is to get the diet and nutrition in order and to not to do anything because you grow your own hair back.

A few other issues may be thyroid, testosterone, allergies and medication side effects. Maybe it's that your testosterone levels are too high and there could be many reasons behind it. One resource for exploring that avenue might be

"The Savvy Woman's Guide to Testosterone" by Dr. Elizabeth Vliet

This is so interesting because so many women are experiencing this now. Sure, there is Rogaine, but I don't know if it's tested on women. But I see more and more women posting on hair loss. I know scientists are exploring cloning with hair follicles but that's five years out. (For more, see this from the BBC.com)
In the meantime, we have to find resources.

One thought - while women may seek hair extensions, sometimes the glue may pull at a woman's roots. Also, women may seek tracks, but those may have the same affect. They're doing more harm than good.

This subject is absolutely important for women. It's been perceived more of a man's condition than a women's condition and it can't be.

PeggyZ, Thanks for your question. Have a few follow up questions ... Are you having any other symptoms beside the hair loss? Such as nail loss? If so, I would like you to take a look at this post ...

And, are you looking for a doctor to examine why you're losing your hair or someone to help you deal with hair loss specifically?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. No, no nail loss. Just hair. I am looking for a doctor who will stop the hair loss and find the cause and grow it back.
