A friend of mine is always crying and everytime someone asks her whats the matter with her all she says is that she is having personal issues. I don't know what else to do!!!! All of this started happening after the homecoming dance. She is having mood swings cause one minute she's happy and the next she's sad. Should I continue asking her what's wrong or should I just leave her alone?????

Hi jmars1,

I know it must be hard to see your friend suffering and not be able to help. Unfortunately, you've done your duty by asking her what's wrong and if you can help. At this point, I'd just leave it alone. Continue being her friend, be there for her, and if she decides that she wants to open up and talk then she will-- but let her do this on her own terms.

Best,

Rosa

Hi jmars1,
There is clearly something not right because of her reactions and its natural for you to feel the way you are feeling. I feel the same way if my friends are not ready to disclose what is bothering them. If you have already asked her once or twice, and she hasn't responded, I would suggest to give her some time to come to terms with what has happened possibly at the dance. Whether she tells you or not, I would suggest be the best friend you possibly can be by comforting her that even if she did NOT tell her what was bothering her, you will be there for her regardless. Once she is comfortable, I am sure she will open up if she feels that you are her confidant and person she can confide in.
The fact that you are concerned about her so much that you are trying to find outreach shows that both of you are best friends.
Best of luck!
