Multiple myomectomies.. does anyone know a good NYC doctor for 2nd opinion?

I'm 33 and I've already had 2 myomectomies and seem to be in need of a 3rd. my first one was an abdominal one when I was 24, the 2nd was a hysteroscopic one when I was 30. The fibroids have been back for quite some time and are growing, my last ultrasound which was a few weeks ago show them being at 5cm and 8cm and a lot of smaller ones plus the cavity of my uterus couldn't even be seen.. my doctor recommended nothing.. he said that I should wait till I decide to have kids and then have the surgery again before i start to try to conceive. I have no children and would like to preserve my fertility. my symptoms are getting worse by the day.. bulkiness feeling to the max, I literally feel the fibroids walking, sitting, standing.. i have to use the bathroom atleast 12 times a day and night.. sometimes not even being able to go even though my bladder is full, and my periods are long, painful and heavy. I would like a 2nd opinion, or atleast talk to a doctor who can explain to me my options and tell me exactly why is going on inside of my uterus. If anybody knows any specialist if NYC I would greatly appreciate it..

thanks.
Jasmine

I am going though the same thing. Apply for medical insurance at your local HRA office. I have a doc call and speak with her. Her name is Dr. Dunkin 516-437-1953

Hi All, I'm not in the NY area, still I wanted to recommend a website with more information than I'd gotten in my other research and seeing 2 doctors: www.fibroidsecondopinion.com.

All the best to everyone -- after waiting 5 years for my fibroids to resolve by themselves (am 52),
I'm considering an abdominal myomectomy as they're really big. I will also try one more shot at vibrational/energy healing I facilitate because that made them really shrink for awhile...

Thank you so much for the link to Dr. Parker's website -- most comprehensive I've seen in 5 years of my own research -- what a relief! And he still leaves open the possibility of myomectomy for large fibroids and that is encouraging.
I have facilitated energy/vibrational healing and got them down to where I couldn't feel them anymore (vs. the size of a 6 month fetus)
but they came back. I will do that again but am comforted to know that I have options and also a good place for info.
Thanks again and best wishes and support to us all : )

Hi Jasmine,

I highly recommend Dr. Kenneth Levey. He performs surgery at NYU. His office is downtown on Maiden Lane. He performed my myomectomy this past April to remove a fibroid 11cm large. I healed very quickly. He is a great, caring man, who is honest and positive.

Hello everybody-
I see that this post is very old. But I wanted to add my recommendation because when I was looking for a fibroid specilist in nyc I found this post.

I had an abdominal myomectomy April 2013 with Dr. Taraneh Shirazian at Mt. Sinai Hospital. I highly recommend her! She was excellent from start to finish. She specializes in fibroids- 80% of her patients are fibroid/fibroid surgery cases. She is extrememly knowledgeable, very current with newest developments, extremely nice and patient, never rushing you. She is very easy to understand- she will explain everything slowly and clearly and with diagrams.
The surgery went smoothly and was very successful. She removed 11 fibroids. There was only 4 fibroids seen by 3 different doctors on saline sono and mri. She said she always finds more than what was diagnosed.
The surgical incision is small and my recovery was quick! I had 1 very rough week, after that it started to get better. I went back to work parttime at my 2 week mark. At 4 weeks, I felt almost 100%.
The entire surgical team was great. Very nice and explained everything to me.
She's great too with follow-up and checking up on you. I really felt in the best care with this doctor!

Hello All!
I had 2 myomectomies, the 1st one in 03 and the second in 10. I feel great and my hubby and I are just starting to try to have kids. Cross your fingers for us. I have 12 fibroids (seize from huge grape fruits to lemon) removed on my first surgery. As for the second one, I have no ideas as Dr say he could not find the pictures they intern took (I always ask to see what I had taken out of my uterus). Anyhow, Drs recommended a minimum of 6 months wait in my case, just to make sure the uterus has healed and ready to go through pregnancy.

Anyone out there who have had multiples myomectomies and had conceived and would like to share her experience? I know its varies from woman to woman but how long did it take you to get pregnant? Your story would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!
