Hi Sarah,

There is no need to be scared, you really won't get pregnant. You're working yourself up into a tizzy because of a bit of scaremongering by someone at the pharmacy counter. Nothing can be done now - just try to stay calm. I don't know what else to say, there isn't anything else we can do. You'll be fine.

Susan

Nobody can give you a guarantee about whether or not you will get pregnant but as I said already, your risk is little to none.

Ok thank you very much I visited the pharmacy today to get my new pack and I told her about what happened and she made me really nervous...she said there’s a chance I could be pregnant and making a big deal out of it even tho I told her exactly what I told you ...she was telling me continue on with my pill and take no break but I said I just wanted to start a day earlier next week and she said I must be careful cause the last 7 days are important but I didn’t have sex since last Tuesday which is a week ago and we even had a condom she was not listening to me I am nervous now

Hello again

The decision is ultimately yours to take. You do have the option of not taking a break as she said. Whatever decision you make, you need to make immediately.

Susan

Hi Sarah29

Thanks for the extra details.

There is no need to take any additional precautions, just start your new pack one day earlier. Once you get your breakthrough bleeding, you know you are not pregnant but missing a pill a full week after sex won't cause ovulation that could cause a pregnancy - you are just about to finish your pack anyway.

If you want to be very careful, then use a condom for the next 7 days. Then there will be zero additional risk.

Best,
Susan
