A swollen thyroid can protrude a bit (or a lot) and this will certainly create the sensation of something being stuck in the throat. Other things like acid reflux, anxiety, and allergies causing slight inflammation can cause a sensation of a lump in the throat or something being stuck in the throat, though there would no visible sign. I would advise your husband to see a doctor about this as soon as possible.
