Q:

Involuntary Urination??

I am 26 years old and play softball twice a week. After I play, whether it be practice or a game, I have a very foul oder coming from "down below." My panties are often damp after practice. I have brushed it off in the past to be sweating, but lately I have been paranoid about the odor! When I arrived home from practice today I went to the bathroom to urinate - my panties were wet midway-forward (toward the front) and again, a foul odor. Could I be urinating and not aware of it while I am playing?? I am very embarrassed to ask this, and even embarrassed at the fact I could be! I have played sports from a very young age and never had an issue like this.

I'm not one of the moderators but it sounds like you could have a case of bacterial vaginosis which many women describe as having a foul odor or a fishy odor. Perhaps during softball while you are running around alot it comes out more onto your underwear. If you describe this to a GYN doctor they can send off a culture and most can tell you with a couple of tests in their office if that is what you have. It is really a pretty common problems for women though I totally understand how embarrassing it is. The doctor will then treat you with antibiotics so there is something that can be done to help.

It's possible...but I still think you should go see your doctor. Its odd this occurs only when you're playing softball. Is that the case or are you noticing it more after playing softball? Let's see if our moderators have some suggestions for you.

I wonder if the foul oder is the actual urine oder, if this is the case. It could be foul simply because it is mixed with sweat. I really do not know what my actual urine smell is....

Number one...don't ever be embarrassed to ask us any question, please. That's why I created EmpowHer...so you could have a safe place to come to ask your health questions.

I would be surprised if you have an incontinence issue but it's not impossible. It almost seems like something else. Does this only happen when your playing softball? Just off the top of my head, I think yeast infection but typically you would have itching along with the odor.

I have an incontinence issue and it can happen when I sneeze, laugh, cough or dance. I really don't have a bad odor with it. I think you'd be able to tell if it was urine vs. something else. Do you have a good gynecologist? You should get checked just to make sure there's nothing else wrong and get to the bottom of what this might be.

I know our moderators will give you some additional ideas and resources. Hang in there. They should get back to you by tomorrow morning. I wish I could be of more help but I'm stumped. You're so young to have an incontinence issue. Let's see what they think. Hope this helps.
