I am 27 no children and not pregnant ....I started my period close to 3weeks a ago all normal till these last 2-4days....I lightly bleed and all of a sudden I have to pass. A jelly like blood clot close to a quarter size or more with more blood than usual ...then after that it goes back to a light flow.....maybe 2-4 times a day....I have NO pain or discomfort other than the random run to the bathroom....I was considering going to the er tonight

Hello Anonymous,

I think the ER doctor made the right call. Treat the urinary tract infection first. A Pap smear can be done at a later date, maybe at the follow up appointment.

So glad that you had this checked out:)

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns about your period.

Bleeding for close to three weeks is abnormal and puts you at risk for anemia. You need to schedule an appointment for a pelvic examination and evaluation with your gynecologist. A blood test to check your hemoglobin and hematocrit might be necessary due to blood loss from prolonged vaginal bleeding. Your doctor may order a pelvic ultrasound to check for uterine fibroids, which can cause a heavy period.

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus. They often appear during childbearing years. Heavy menstrual bleeding and prolonged menstrual periods with seven days or more of menstrual bleeding are two signs of uterine fibroids.

Regards,
Maryann

(Uncomfortable but not horrible) and they also ran blood work...he said my blood levals were okay prego test negative and all o had was a bladder infection and he have me hormones to help stop the bleeding and help balance my hormones..the ultrasounds came back good. And to do a follow up. Do you think he should of done a pap smear? Thank you for your helpful comments
