Q:

I have this acute prickling & a burning sensation on the top of my left foot, from the ankle joint to the toes. Could it be because of varicose veins?

The sensation is not there all the time. It is not related to strain, exposure or fatigue. But sometimes it is very acute causing great discomfort bordering on being unbearable. Please advice.

Thanks so much for writing and I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue. According to the Mayo Clinic, there could be a number of causes or conditions related to burning feet including:
Alcoholism
Athlete's Foot
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease
Complex regional pain syndrome
Diabetic neuropathy
Gastric bypass surgery
HIV/AIDS
Hypothyroidism
Kidney failture
Morton's Neuroma
PAD
Peripheral neuropathy
Tarsal tunnel and vitamin deficiency.

Would any of these apply to you anon? How long have you had this pain? And you may also want to check out this question from another woman who posted to EmpowHER who was having the same issue.

Thanks and look forward to hearing more from you.
