Anon - If you've had a period you're not pregnant. If you use Plan B it can affect the timing of your period. Please read Cary's comments just before yours, there is a lot of good information there that will help you. Pat

Hi Anonymous

We get this question a lot. Here is what the Plan B website's FAQ says:

"When used as directed, Plan B One-Step™ is safe and effective. Side effects may include changes in your period, nausea, lower abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and breast tenderness. Some women may have changes in their period, a heavier or lighter next period, or a period that is early or late. If your period is more than a week late, you may be pregnant. If you have severe abdominal pain, you may have an ectopic pregnancy, and should get immediate medical attention."

I suggest you wait a little longer, and read the Plan B website: http://planbonestep.com/plan-b-faq.aspx. If you don't get your period, take a home pregnancy test in 2 weeks.

Now is the time to make a plan for birth control so you don't have to go through this again. Visit your health care provider or a Planned Parenthood for education on options and discussion of what is best for you.

Good luck to you.

I had unprotected sex a couple days after my period and then went home and took three of my roommates BC pills (stupid, I know); the next day I felt nauseous. He pulled out, but I was worried about pre-cum so I also decided to take Plan B two days later. About a week or so after that, I had bleeding that was dark brown and reddish for four or five days ( started Sept. 13 ish). That was just about a month ago and I still have not gotten my period. I'm pretty much freaking out and worried I'm pregnant. Any advice will help! Thank you!

The bleeding you experienced for 4-5 days...was this the time you were expecting your regular period?

If not, when was your last menstrual period (first day), and when are you expecting your next period to start?

Plan B plus taking extra birth control pills will cause menstrual irregularities. Nothing harmful and nothing to worry about, but your period will be irregular (late or early), as well as you will experience breakthrough bleeding (bleeding in between periods). You can't expect to take that many hormones and not have your period a little changed, right?! It is not harmful, but taking someone else's prescription..especially such a large dose...can be extremely harmful.

Basically, if your period has not started when you expect it to (tell us what day), you can always take a home pregnancy test to stop worrying.
