Q:

I frequently wake up seeing a black half moon or kidney shaped spot in a fixed position relative to my point of focus.

This spot is what I see as part of my vision not something I can see in a mirror. It appears to be about 3/8" to 1/2". It disappears after standing up and moving around but remains if I continue to lay down. When I close my eye, it is still there but has no color. It moves with my focus. It does not float. I did have cataract surgery two months ago. This started about a month later. I am totally blind in my other eye. I have seen by my Ophthalmologist (Scheie Eye Institute) but so far no explanation

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

Eye "floaties" are common but this does not appear to be what you are dealing with.
What kind of tests have been done so far to identify this issue? Was your cataract surgery followed up on and considered a success?

Does this happen only when you wake up or is it all day?
We hope to hear back from you-
Susan
