My mom was diagnosed with panniculus. Is there treatment for this? Or do you have to make improvements to your lifestyle? What are some tips for treating panniculus?

Guide

Hello Lindsay,

Panniculus is a fatty layer of subcutaneous tissue. Abdominal panniculus refers to a sheet of fat tissue that is present in the lower abdominal area.

It is not a medical condition but rather a physical finding if you will. It is often seen among obese individuals, in women following pregnancy or among people who have lost a significant amount of weight.

An operation termed a panniculectomy (a kind of abdominoplasty) is designed to remove part of this fat tissue.

Regards,
Maryann
