help!

Whenever I pee, I have the urge that u need to urinate more but am unable to. Then, when I start walking or get myself into a different position, the feeling comes back again and I can urinate a little, it can also hurt a bit. Im not sure if this makes any difference but I noticed it started last weekend when I went to visit my out of state boyfriend and had sex various times. This happened about a month ago too after I went to visit him but went away faster. He has tested and he I'd negative of any sexual transmitted diseases and so am I... I'm getting really worried because I urinate in small quantities, various times....any clue of what it can be?

Sincerely,

Mel

I had the same thought when I read your question. It really does sound like a urinary tract infection (UTI), with the urgency, frequency and hurting that you described. This is actually a condition that has a funny name "Honeymoon Cystitis" (or, bladder infection), as it can be caused from prolonged sexual intercourse.

I have had many UTIs when I was younger, and it is a simple and quick doctor visit to get diagnosed and treated. They need a urine sample (pee in cup, in private) and an on-site lab can give you the results quickly. You will most likely be prescribed an antibiotic, and there are some pain relievers that will help with the burning and frequency urge. Some of these are OTC (over the counter); you can ask a pharmacist what he/she recommends (don't be shy to ask...UTIs are very common!!)

oh! And don't wait too much longer; this is an infection that is most likely to become more painful the longer you delay getting treatment.

Dear Anon, thanks for your posting and I am sorry your visit with your boyfriend turned out this way. You probably know by now that when a female is active sexually, there is always the risk to acquire bacteria that can cause Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) or other similar conditions including bladder infection or vaginitis. If you are not sexually intimate with your boyfriend on a more frequent basis, it is very possible that having a lot of sex at one time may have triggered inflammation thus resulting in an UTI. You only mentioned the urgency to urinate, so I will assume there is no burning sensation accompanying the urgency feeling. Regardless, I would have a doctor run a urine culture and check your bladder to ensure you are not presenting with a more serious problem. Depending on your age, I would also consider ruling out pelvic prolapse.

In the meantime, make sure to drink lots of water to wash off any possible bacteria. Warm zit baths with epson salts will also help.
Wish you well!
