Experiensing some swelling in lower limbs

On a number of days or I should probably say evenings over the past 2 weeks I have been having some swelling in both ankels and top of feet and part way up the leg. Left side being worse than the right. Have had to deal with a fib for the past 9 years. Being very well controled with meds. I wear compression socks as was advised by my doctor years ago. I know that over this same time period there have been a number of evenings when I have not felt like fixing supper so turn to TV dinners and such like frozen meats that I can just heat up and fix some instant potatos and a canned veg. Sometimes the swelling is worse than others and when I take my shoes and socks off I will have the imprint of my shoes across the area just behind my toes and the imprint of my socks just below my knees. Would appreciate any input would be very much appreciated. Try to watch what I eat but since my wife of 51 years passed away 2 years ago I more than likely am not doing am not doing as good a job as she did. Anyway thank you very much in advance.Dave Daniel.

Hello Dave

Thank you for writing and I am very sorry you lost your wife after such a long marriage.

Heart conditions can cause lower extremity swelling.

Other conditions can also cause swelling on legs, ankles and feet like.

Being overweight
Blood clot in the leg
Increased age
Leg infection
Veins in the legs that cannot properly pump blood back to the heart

Other conditions that cause this could be problems with the kidneys or even your lymphatic system. That system rids the body of toxins and waste.

If your TV dinners contain a lot of salt, and I am going to assume they do because they all do, this salt intake may also be a contributory cause.

Dave, I think it's a good idea to call your doctor about this. It may be fully treatable but your symptoms do need medical attention. Please update us when you can.

Best,

Susan
