Hi Anonymous

I have been in your shoes. I had cervical carcinoma in situ, a cone biopsy and a LEEP. It is scary. You are afraid they didn't get all of it, you are worried about what that will mean, if it is still there or returns will it spread? It is totally normal to experience some depression when dealing with this situation.

Those cells can come back. They can miss a few and they can grow more. That is why you go back more frequently for check ups, to be sure that doesn't happen or if it does, they catch it right away and take care of it. We do have an article about this can may help you: https://www.empowher.com/cervical-cancer/content/cervical-cancer-preventing-often-deadly-form-cancer.

In my case, I had a young son, severe dysplasia, and carcinoma in situ which means cancer that hasn't spread. I had the cone and also had to have the LEEP where they cauterize the entire area. That was about 14 years ago. I had the surgery, had all the follow ups, had a couple of abnormal Paps here and there but they were always just irritation and nothing more. So it IS scary, but they likely got all of the cells, and if they didn't, they will. Cervical cancer caught early is quite curable.

If the depression doesn't lift, please discuss it with your doctor. In the meantime, I know you will be worried but please know the odds are in your favor. Good luck and if we can help you further, please let us know.

Hope your Mother is ok. All you can do for your mother is be there for her and hence when she gets depressed give her a shoulder to cry on. I don't know how old your mother is but the older the person the harder it might be to treat. But your mother could be one of the lucky ones and goes through this like a breeze. All the best with your mothers treatment and I hope she recovers from this and that no other condition will arise because of this . 'Bye for now.

Waiting to hear your results. I had Severe Dysplasia in 2001 and had a cone biopsy done. I have never had a normal pap smear since. Recently, I was told I had high-grade pap. Went into the doctor's office and passed out during the Colposcopy/Biopsy do to the severe pain. Now, they are scheduling me to be put to sleep and do it in the OR. Happy about that. The doctor say's some women depending on the cell changes can pass out. The worse the dysplasia is the more sensitive you are in that area. We already know that we are going to have a hystorectomy done after the biopsy. Due to the fact I have become emotionally depressed and just can't do the biopsy's every six months anymore. I am tired. I have never passed out from any biopsy's before. So I am pretty sure the cells have changed again. I already had a tubel in 1994 so I already know that I didn't want anymore kids. But, I'm blessed with 3 wonderful children.
