Q:

Does anyone else sneeze after eating mints?

With near predictability I sneeze following the intake of mint whether it's gum, a breath mint, Listerine breath strips, or something else. I've now come to refer to these items as Sneezey Treats. Following the two sneezes, there are no other symptoms. I don't break out in hives, no watery eyes, nothing.

Anyone else got this going on? I obviously don't need to rush to the emergency room and the solution is even more obvious -- stop consuming this stuff, right -- but am looking for fellow MSPs -- or mint sensitive people. Any out there?

Yup, this happens to me. For most of my life I thought this was normal and everyone did it. I thought that’s why it was called “peppermint”, because pepper makes people sneeze.

The good thing is, if youre stoned and get pulled over you can pop a mint in your mouth for an on command sneeze and blame the red eyes on alergies. Haha

Omg me too! I thought I was the only one haha. Cough lollies that contain that minty taste/smell, chewing gum, anything minty! It's definitely funny.

Yes! When I eat a strong mint I sneeze 3 times, I also sneeze once I have had 3 drinks of vodka and then I'm fine. Not sure what triggers this.

Same. Its the weirdest thing. After any alcohol substance, any mint, not when i gargle with listerine or anything. But gum, the listerine strips, other mints. Every since i was a kid. It doesnt bother me but i just find its strange and never understood why.

5 to 8 times is my see ing reflex after mint. I also sneeze after I eat and I'm full. Then its more times around 10 to 15. My dad had this and it got worse as he got older in his 70's he could sneeze 30+ times after eating. His mother had it. My sister has it my daughter has it. I have it. Not sure yet if my grandaughters have it.
Definitely an unusual habit.

That's a actual condition called Gustatory rhinitis and it is received genetically.

You are not alone and I’m glad I’m not either. This little trick of mine makes people laugh as I go through my sneeze routine after eating a mint

I literally just had an Altoid and went on a sneezing fit of about 8 or so sneezes. Usually its only 1 or 2 times. I am so glad I'm not alone in this. MSP's for life!
