Hello Anonymous,
A liver cyst is a fluid-filled cavity in the liver. As a cyst increases in size, as yours have done, they cause discomfort or pain in the upper right area of the abdomen.
The cause of simple liver cysts is unknown. However, in rare cases, liver cysts are the result of an inherited disease called polycystic liver disease, or the parasitic infection, Echinococcus infection.
When cysts cause symptoms, treatment is necessary. According to the Cleveland Clinic, "the best treatment is to remove a large portion of the cyst wall. This surgical procedure can usually be done through the laparoscope, which requires only 2-3 small incisions and an overnight stay in the hospital. Most patients recover fully within 2 weeks. The risk of the cyst recurring is very low."
Your physician is your best resource for answering your questions and recommending treatment options, including diet.
