Can victims of anoxic brain damage hear you?

Hello everyone. Grateful for this chat room. My sister recently suffered from oxygen cessation due to her lungs collapsing. We're not sure how long she was without oxygen but the MRI shows significant brain damage on her frontal lobe. Here cerebelum and brain stem are functioning and all her organs including her lungs are working on their own. I was wondering if anyone who has had a relative wake up from this type of brain damage asked their loved one if they heard them talking to them. I know it also depends on whether or not their hearing was impacted. Has anyone asked that question?
