What are the benefits of using acupuncture? I hear it can help fertility rates, is that true?

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for reaching out to EmpowHER with your question! I myself have always been interested about acupuncture and its health benefits.

Acupuncture has several benefits and is known to help with several health conditions, including easing back pain, helping with indigestion, soothing severe headaches, helping patients who don't necessarily respond well with medications, and having a positive effect on menopause symptoms like hot flashes. Acupuncture pinpoints specific regions or muscles on the body to help improve pain and other illnesses. With cancer, acupuncture can sometimes help alleviate nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy.

Acupuncture originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Although acupuncture is proven to have several health benefits, it should not be replaced with westernized medicine or a visit to the doctor.

Yes, acupuncture has improved fertility rates in several cases. Doing acupuncture a few months before fertility procedures such as IVF, donor-egg transfer or insemination can help increase the effects of fertility. For more information, check out this EmpowHER article about acupuncture and how it can help with infertility: https://www.empowher.com/female-infertility-overview/content/acupuncture-may-help-infertility.

I hope this helped and gave you some more information about the benefits of acupuncture. Are you considering trying acupuncture, Jessica?
