Hello, Anon.

If you can not use oil of cloves as treatment, you can take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as aspirin or ibuprofen, to ease the discomfort until healing is complete. Your doctor may prescribe a stronger pain medication if over-the-counter medications don't help sufficiently, or will anesthetize the area.

Hello. Thank you for posting.

Dry socket can occur three to four days after an adult tooth is removed. The blood clot that should form after removal is dislodged or dissolved before the wound heals, exposing underlying bone and nerves. In the days following a tooth removal, the main symptom is pain.

Home treatment for a dry socket usually involves temporary management of pain until a dental professional can be seen for treatment. Methods to provide some relief include the use of over-the-counter pain medications, cold compresses, rinsing with warm salted water, and the use of oil of cloves (place one to two drops of clove oil on a clean cotton swab and gently apply to the affected area).

A dental profession will use a gauze dressing of oil of cloves paste placed inside the extraction site. This would be removed the following day.
