Just to clarify, in case any women are curious, the IUD works by making a "inhospitable environment" in the uterus for a fertilized egg (not the sperm, as the sperm don't really "hang out" in the uterus)...but the IUD can work by stopping the sperm from reaching the egg in the fallopian tube. Just a slight clarification, as the exact mechanisms aren't fully realized in regards to the IUD even in the medical community, but the "known" factors are it changes the lining of the uterus to prevent a fertilized egg from attaching (our uterine lining changes throughout our cycle, to create a hospitable environment, so the IUD stops that cycle).

i had lots of problems like that when i was on birth control until i switched to paraguard

its a non hormonal IUD made ofcopper, it creates an inhospitable environment for sperm, thats why it works,

if your sensitive to the hormone change BC causes, switch to paraguard

i love it!

An update re: Mirena...
My Mirena fell out!!!! Feeling much better indeed!!
I also had my levels checked and they were fine.. I do not want it back in. I'm waiting for a cycle to decide whether or not I will be having an balloon ablation. I had a period at the end of November and it was heavy then light, like a 'normal' period. NO more spotting, no more low libido!!
Hope this helps someone too~!

I had mine taken out after 4 years of wearing it because of complete lack of sex drive. I felt better for about a month but I have since went back to no sex drive. Plus the fact I am on no birth control, always makes me worry about getting pregnant. I am unsure if the IUD possibly permanently affected me or not since I had it for 4 years. It has been out since February or so. I am thinking about getting the Paraguard since it is non-hormonal but I'm not sure. My husband always seems sad and disappointed when I don't want to do it. Then that makes me feel horrible. I still love him very much and don't want to be with anyone else but I think he doubts it. I wish I knew what to do.

Have you talked with your doctor about having your hormone levels checked? Have you talked with your doctor about your concern with low libido?

I have not been tested for my hormone level. I am wondering though if it wasn't the Mirena. I had a perfectly fine sex drive, then I first got the Depo Prevera shot. I went to no sex drive and a complete bitch. What was bad is I knew I was but couldn't help it. My nerves were on end and I felt horrible. Bled for four straight months. It finally took getting pregnant to straighten out my hormones and feel myself again. Then I get the Mirena. I have slowly progressed over the years to absolutely no sex drive. I am simply wondering if 4 years of this low, steady dose of birth control has permanently affected me.

Since I've had the Mirena in Im not interested in sex at all. If I give it up to please my man there is no feeling of enjoyment out of it. It is more so of, "hurry up Im ready for this to be over with", type of thing. Seems like there are several people that have the same symptoms. Im glad Im not the only one thats not sexually interested.

I like most of the comments have experienced complete lack of desire for sex. I had the Mirena inserted 2 years ago after my son was born, initially I thought I felt this way because of being a busy working mother of two little ones, but it has only gotten worse and I usually don't even like to be touched at all even by my kids. This has really caused a huge strain on my marriage and it wasn't until my husband said to me the other day that I have been so different since having our son that I got to thinking. I have finally decided to have it removed. I'm scared to death to get pregnant again but there are other methods to prevent that. I sincerely hope the symptoms reside after having it taken out .
