Hi. I have been a type 1 diabetic for the last 35 years. Get shingles at least twice a year. Very painfull and not good for bloodsugar control. Realise that diabetes are an autoimmune disease, and that might be the reason why I get shingles often. Any other ladies that have diabetes and have trouble with getting shingles regularly?

Hi Riana

Diabetes can indeed raise your risk for shingles. Stress and immune dysfunction raise the risk. https://www.empowher.com/condition/shingles

I am wondering if you have talked to your health care provider or endocrinologist about the shingles vaccine? If you are a candidate, it may help you: https://www.empowher.com/condition/search/anti-shingles-vaccine

Getting older is a risk factor for shingles by itself, so your risk of repeated attacks is probably rising. I would definitely ask your doctor about the vaccine. It is highly recommended.

Shingles is miserable and painful. I'm sorry you keep going through it. Good luck to you.

Hi Cary. Thank you for your response. Will definately look into the vaccine option. Not sure if the vaccine is available in South Africa....
Kind Regards
