As there are lots of carcinogens in sunscreens and in reference to your very informative article about cancer and job, do you see any carcinogens in of the list of ingredients below in All Natural Sunscreen SPF 30 by Soleo Organics? Do you think this product would adequately protect the skin from sun damage? Also can you recommend any good all natural sunscreens esp. high SPF 30 plus and websites where I can order them from?
Thanks. Samurai

Ingredients

Beeswax: derived from the honeycomb cells. It is used as a natural emulsifier. It has nourishing, moisturizing and softening properties and it is an emollient helping to seal the moisture in the skin. It is also credited with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and elasticity-enhancing properties.

Candellila Wax: derived from candelilla plants. It is used as a thickening agent and emollient to give products their form.

Capric/caprylic triglycerides: derived from glycerine and coconut oil. It is considered to be a good emollient and thickening agent.

Cucumber Extract: obtained from cucumber. It is an excellent skin-soother and skin-conditioning ingredient.

Grapeseed Oil: extracted from grape seeds. Bursting with anti-oxidants it helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improves overall skin tone. It has slightly astringent properties and is suitable for all skin types.

Green Tea: extract from green tea leaves. It reduces the risk of irritation and elastin damage and is included to energize, invigorate and uplift! The anti-oxidants in green tea protect the skin from the breakdown of collagen and elastin that occurs after UV-induced sun damage.

Lecithin: derived from plant membranes. It is used for its emollient properties.

Macadamia Oil: extracted from macadamia nuts. It closely resembles oil naturally produced by the skin and supplies emollients to the skin to soften. It is a protective oil with a high absorption rate and can be used for healing scars, sunburns, minor wounds and other irritations.

Roman Chamomile Extract: derived from roman chamomile plant. It is used for its skin calming properties as it forms an anti-irritant shield on the surface of the skin.

Sunflower Oil: is cold pressed oil extracted from sunflower seeds. It is a non-volatile plant oil and it is used as an emollient. It contains vitamins A, D and E rich in minerals such as calcium zinc, potassium iron and phosphorous.

Theobroma Butter (Cupuassu Butter): derived from the seed of the cupuassu tree. It is an emollient that softness and improves the humidity and elasticity of the skin. It also restores the cutaneous barrier.

Tocopheryl Acetate (Natural Vitamin E): plant derived. It is a natural anti-oxidant and helps retain optimum skin moisture levels, promoting flexibility and suppleness of the skin.

Vegetable oils: extracted from vegetables. They nourish and moisturize and have water repellant qualities.

Zinc Oxide: is a naturally occurring mineral. Soléo Organics use a special form of zinc oxide, which, unlike common zinc, is much more transparent when applied to the skin. Zinc oxide is a preferred sunscreen active because it is a very stable broadspectrum UV reflector. The zinc is free from nano particles as well.

Why doesn't Soleo Organics use chemical UV-absorbers?
Chemical UV-absorbers are absorbed very easily into the body and into the bloodstream. Soleo Organics has chosen not to use chemical UV-absorbers in their formula due to international medical research articles that have shown some chemical UV-absorbers have the potential to cause health problems. There is a medical research website that you might like to visit called www.sunscreenresearch.com - this outlines various research paper abstracts that have been published in medical journals about the concerns of common sunscreen chemical UV-absorbers. Chemical sunscreens also have the potential to cause allergic dermatitis and also photoallergic dermatitis. (Photo-allergic dermatitis differs from allergic dermatitis, as the irritation occurs only after the skin comes into direct exposure with the combination of the allergic substance and sunlight.) Physical sunscreens like zinc oxide do not cause this problem.

Why doesn't Soleo Organics use synthetic preservatives?

Soleo Organics has chosen not to use synthetic preservatives due to international medical research articles that have shown some synthetic preservatives have the potential cause health problems. What does SPF mean?
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. SPF numbers are an approximate indication of how much protection from the sun the product will provide for your skin. For any exposure time an SPF30 sunscreen has approximately double the protection time of an SPF15 sunscreen. ie. For an average person (skin burns after 10 minutes in the sun:
• SPF30 = 300 minutes before burning
• SPF15 = 150 minutes before burning
What does Broadspectrum mean?
A sunscreen offers broadspectrum protection when it protects against UV-A and UV-B rays. UV-A rays cause premature ageing of the skin. UV-B rays cause sunburn. In the past, UV-B rays were regarded as the main cause of skin cancer. However, the University of Sydney has shown that UV-A radiation plays a large role in causing gene mutations that can lead to skin cancer. Therefore it is vital that when using a sunscreen you check that it offers broad-spectrum protection.
