Abnormal Bleeding - Heavy & Thick (20 years old)

I started heavy, thick bleeding today. My normal period was 1-1/2 weeks ago and was a normal cycle. I am 20 years old. Please advise if I should be concerned & call/see my doctor. What would cause this?

Anon, I agree with Alysia. You should at least call your doctor's office and speak to a nurse over the phone; they will know your history and will be able to ask you questions that will determine whether you need to be seen by a doctor.

In the meantime, here is a page with some links about midcycle bleeding:

Has anything changed in your life in the last several weeks? Have you started (or ended) a medication, for instance? Have you had any medical procedures? Have you been under an extra level of stress?

Yes, whenever there is something unusual like this, you should consult your doctor. Are you taking birth control pills, by any chance?
