Have you been diagnosed with this condition by a Dermatologist? If so, your doctor can recommend topical or other medications that are effective, depending on the severity and location.
Baking soda's active ingredient is sodium bicarbonate, and from my research on tinea versicolor, the active ingredients that can help treat this fungal infection are: selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, or pyrithione zinc.
