There are several ways in which a person with anorexia could experience any type of heart problem:
- Malnutrition. A person who does not consume enough nutrients (and are deficient in protein and micronutrients), can cause serious health risks, including heart failure.
- Dehydration. A person who does not consume enough liquids can then risk becoming dehydrated, which can lead to many "system failures", including kidney, heart and brain.
- Also electrolyte imbalances and hormonal imbalances can lead to heart problems, including heart attack.

All of these conditions (malnutrition, dehydration, etc) can lead to: poor circulation, slow or irregular heart beat, low blood pressure or heart attack. All of the body's tissues, organs and systems require essential nutrients from food in order to work properly, and is the reason anorexia (or any eating disorder, or disordered eating) could effect your heart, at any stage or severity.
