Symptoms of arthritis of the knee would be pain, particularly pain that’s aggravated with activity, so that you find that your knee starts hurting more after you have been on it, after you have been running or jogging. And so pain is the best and first symptom for most patients.

Dr. Mary O'Connor, M.D., was accepted as a resident in orthopedic surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, New York in 1985. She joined the orthopedic surgery staff at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida in 1991, and since 2005 has served as department chair.
