Monalou recalls how a newletter update from EmpowHER helped diagnose her partner with an abdominal aortic aneurysm, which lead to his life-saving surgery just days later.

Monalou:
And really felt incredibly empowering, I guess, for me to know that something I am involved with, something I received, something I am interested in, saved his life.

My partner had been having some health concerns. We didn’t know what it was.

Robert:
At the time I really didn’t know what was going on and I wasn’t taking very serious what was going on.

Monalou:
I went into EmpowHER newsletter and Rob was making coffee. I just started reading this article on aortic aneurysms – not that I would read anything about that. I didn’t say we know what it is, just that happened to be the topic that day.

Robert:
What it turned out to be was an abdominal aortic aneurysm which is kind of like if a tire tube or something were to kind of blow up and was to the point of bursting. I called my doctor immediately. They took it very, very seriously.

Monalou:
It was kind of scary because of what it is, how dangerous they are.

Robert:
That morning I went to the doctor and within a matter of a few days I was in surgery and had it, and had to fix so I don’t know, as a couple how could you say, how could you put… how could you summarize that or put a price on that – I don’t know what today would be, honestly.

Monalou:
And all that from the result of reading the website; it saved his life, you know, who has been my partner for almost 15 years and, you know, he’s not that old, I mean, he’s a little old, but he’s not that old. So, you know, I still want him around for a while.
