Julie Flygare
Julie Flygare, JD is a published writer, blogger, runner, narcolepsy advocate and creator of the SLEEP WALK.
She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brown University in 2005 and her Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School in 2009.
Diagnosed with “narcolepsy with cataplexy” in law school, Julie studied health policy and the specific barriers facing those with narcolepsy. Upon recognizing that many doctors were unfamiliar with narcolepsy, she collaborated with Harvard Medical School researchers to establish a 5-hour educational program based on her story now taught to all Harvard Medical students.
In 2011, Julie established the first SLEEP WALK in Washington DC and won Narcolepsy Network’s National Public Awareness Award. She recently accepted an official appointment from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to serve as a Board Member on NIH's Sleep Disorder Research Advisory Board from 2012-2015.
Currently, Julie is publishing her narcolepsy memoir and preparing for the National Sleep Walk 2013.
