Online health technology is making serious waves in the way we can receive professional health care, and manage health and wellness for our families and ourselves.

Our founder, Michelle King Robson, recently spoke at the LiveHealth® Online Summit: Women Connect to Health, sharing her own health story and explaining the benefits of embracing online health technology.

We had the opportunity to speak with Michelle to learn more and hear her personal input when it comes to telemedicine tools.

Q:

Why do you believe it is important for women to embrace online health technology?

A:

EmpowHER and LiveHealth Online surveyed moms about health technology and discovered a great deal. From the survey we learned that moms see the value in telemedicine. 64 percent of moms said that having access to health care on-demand is more important than streaming video services or even food delivery.

This essentially proves there is a need for online health technology. Telemedicine tools like LiveHealth Online can be a security blanket for moms and their families. Moms lead seriously busy lives and with this type of technology they could manage their family’s health more easily. There is no better way to do it.

Q:

How can health technology tools like online doctor visits help moms with busy schedules?

A:

When you’re sick, the last thing you want to do is deal with the hassle of trying to get into the doctor let alone trying to get an appointment. Plus, when you have kids, you don’t want to have to bring them along to the doctor’s where they might pick something up.

Instead, with online doctor visits, you can have a health care professional right in front of you, from the comfort of your own home or wherever you may be, 24/7.

Q:

At the summit, you mentioned some of your favorite apps when it comes to tracking your health online. Which one is your favorite and which one do you find to be the most helpful?

A:

I’ve downloaded LiveHealth Online; I love this app. It’s not only helpful for busy moms and their families, but also for all of us taking care of aging parents.

I was giving a presentation at the summit and I saw that my mom texted me several times and tried to FaceTime me, but I couldn’t get to my phone. She was dealing with a health concern, and if she used a resource like LiveHealth Online at the time, they could have offered help to my mom.

It was a helpless feeling knowing I couldn’t do anything when my mom was trying to reach me. It happened right then and there before I went on stage. At that time, I was wondering, “Why didn’t I download the app for my mom?”

Another app and site I love is SkinSAFE because it manages people’s skin conditions, and helps skin allergy sufferers and health-conscious consumers find products that are healthy for their skin. I created this app because I suffer from skin allergies and it is very difficult to find safe products for my skin.

We are a society that is used to having things immediately. We shouldn’t have to wait when it comes to our health, and unfortunately a lot of people do.

SkinSAFE gives users access to reliable answers just like LiveHealth Online does.

Q:

What made LiveHealth Online a great partner for EmpowHER?

A:

We are both trying to change the outcomes for the patient by making health care a better experience. At EmpowHER we want to help women manage their health and we want it to be efficient and cost effective. LiveHealth Online is available 24/7, and at EmpowHER, we allow our community to ask health questions and get answers in 24 hours or less.

Our shared goal is for patients to have great care and resources, and to have easy access to it.

Q:

Have you ever used a telemedicine tool like LiveHealth Online and have a personal experience to share? How has telemedicine helped you?

A:

I used telemedicine quite a few times. When people get sick, it seems like it’s always on a Friday night when you have no access to a doctor. I know this to be true for myself because I had a sinus infection in the middle of the night and was able to use telemedicine to get help right away. It changed everything for me. It was such a great experience and I just knew at that time that it was going to revolutionize health care.

When you’re sick you ultimately have to leave work. This causes productivity to go down from an employee and employer standpoint. It’s that whole process of sitting in the waiting room, finally being seen by the health care professional, going to the pharmacy, and then crawling into bed. In fact, our survey found that 71% of women can miss up to two hours of their day taking a child to a doctor visit.

With LiveHealth Online a typical doctor visit is $49 or less, which similar or less than a typical doctor office visit.
