I'm having thyroid surgery next week!
Hello everyone! I'm having the left side of my thyroid removed next week on June 15th. Ive read a few stories on this website and I must say I'm getting even more stressed by the minute! It seems like everyone who has had a thyroidectomy are surfing from lack of energy. This really saddens and scares me the most because I am only 23 years old with a 2 year old son who is full of energy! Ive had blood work and biopsies which were all normal. One question I have to ask is: does a completely healthy person such as myself aside from the thyroid nodule, experience all these problems after the surgery? Any advice would greatly be appreciated!
Hi everyone,
The surgery was fine, the surgeon said that she only had to remove the left side. Its now been a month and I'm feeling fine and I'm not on any meds as of yet. However, the pathologists could not determine whether it was cancerous so I was told that they would do some more testing and get back to me. I will keep everyone posted!

Hey there proudmommy, 4 years ago i had my thyroid removed completely, had some issues trying to get my medicine straight afterwards, finally had it straight, and last year i noticed i had a knot in the front of my throat, up a little higher than where my scar is. After many doctors and biopsies and blood work later, i was able to the surgeon that removed my thyroid and he told me that i had more goiters on a part of my thyroid that didnt get removed as previously thought. So this March I went back in for another surgery to remove the remaining part of my thyroid, they first thought they could just remove the goiter on it, but once inside they realized it was not just one goiter but my remaining part of my thyroid was completly covered in goiters, so they removed the whole part. Now I have no thyroid parts at all, and rely completly on medicine. It is a tricky thing to get your dosage correct but once you do, it is fine. Everyone reacts differently to the medicine, your body may need more and it may need less, just remember to let your doctor know hey i am not feeling right can you check my dosage!! Thats what I have to do! So now I have 2 scars and still trying to recover from this second surgery, it was much detailed than my first. I wish you the best and please post updates!!!!!
