T3 in pregnancy

By September 16, 2011 - 10:07am

Hi ladies can anyone share any expereince of T3 treatment during pregnancy? I have just found out that i am pregnant and the consultant wants to take me off my T3 medication by 12 weeks. I am in a huge panic because I know how sick I am when I come off it! Has anyone out there taken T3 during pregnancy? Thank you so much for reading. Felicity x

I was on a T3/T4 combination six weeks before I became pregnant and T4 only for 14 years previous to that. As someone who has never been on T3 only, my experience may not be the same as yours.

That said, I can say you may want to do some research before you agree to that! I assume there is a reason you are on the T3, so why would they want you to discontinue use at 12 weeks? I was at the same dosage of thyroid medication for 14 years, and the only time we had to begin raising it was DURING my pregnancy!

The main question here should be what your FREE T3 levels are currently, and go from there.

Here is an article to get you started. . .

I would really question the reasons for this, as many of us who had thyroid disease before pregnancy can safely say that pregnancy itself can be pretty rough for thyroid patients!

Keep us posted and congratulations!
