So what are your thoughts regarding the thyroid guard?

Yeah, this is a tricky one. I get that it's important to guard the thyroid during an x-ray, but at the same time, I understand the radiologists point of view in that it could ruin the image which would then require a second x-ray (or mammogram) which in the long one would be worse. I know myself and I would probably not be bold enough to ask for one. I guess at this point my thyroid is already messed up so I'm not sure about the benefit.

ha ha, I was thinking the same thing! What difference does it make to me, I don't think it could do any more damage. . . but for those who don't have our problems I wonder if it would be worth it. They must be somewhat important or why would everyone have one even though they don't use it?
