Potential dangerous situation with a two year old & antibiotics
I was given some very disturbing news this week. A good friend of mine has a two year old granddaughter with a strep infection. The answer from the doctor was to prescribe a sulfa-based antibiotic. Apparently there were no considerations to environmental factors such as as where did she get it, what is her diet, and the severity of the antibiotic that could do more harm than good. There are cases where children have been given these types of antibiotics with the resulting allergic reaction manifesting in Stevens-Johnson's Syndrome. This condition could result in massive burns to the body, eye and brain damage, and internal organ malfunction. With this two year old, if the allergic reaction does not get her, there has to be a question on type of antibiotic that could eventually allow the body to lose resistance to any future infection. There has to be a better treat than this dangerous medical protocol.
Thank you for your concern and I understand your passion and aggravation.
The doctor prescribed what he felt was right at the time. I am sure his intention was not to do harm to the child. The challenge is doctors only know what they are taught. Any doctor will tell you that their knowledge is limited when it comes to nutrition, vitamins, and minerals. One doctor I worked with told me he had about a week of nutrition in medical school. He said he had to take extra classes to learn about alternative therapies once he was out of school.
I know that now they are trying to integrate more but it is not main stream.
Our goal here is not to make anyone the bad guys. It is our hope that one day doctors and alternative practitioners can work together to improve someone's health as a whole. Not us against them, That is what's wrong with our world today. We are looking for someone to point the finger at instead of working together.
EmpowHer is here to give women the opportunity to find answers to the
challenges that they may be facing. This is a wonderful tool and my hope is the word will spread and millions of women will find what they are searching for to improve the quality of their lives.
