What is Breast Cancer Awareness Month like for survivors of other cancers?

I recently read a post in another online forum from a man who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer during October 2009. He said he felt completely isolated and lost due to the difficulty of finding information about his cancer, and was upset by the flood of media attention that was being placed on breast cancer awareness while he was struggling to get support from family, friends and people in general.

He led me to wonder how others feel. If you've survived a cancer other than breast cancer, does it bother you to see so much emphasis placed on one type of cancer while others receive less attention or none at all. I've personally heard from women who've had lung cancer, anal cancer, ovarian cancer and thyroid cancer who've said that they would like to see cancer awareness approached in a way that recognizes the needs of all cancer patients and survivors.

What are your thoughts on this? Let us know.

Folks, I'm wondering why no one is talking in this group. The women in other online support groups I'm in have been extremely vocal this month in talking about the impact that the sea of pink everywhere is having on them and their recovery. Is there anything we can do that would make you more comfortable in participating in this discussion group? Please let us know, and thanks.
