I donated part of my liver to my brother in 2012, at that time they also remove the gall bladder. Before I did weight more than I should have but when the effort was put forward I could easily lose weight. After surgery I weighted 165 , I am 5'3" tall and 54 yrs old... I would like to weight that weight again. I have gained weight constantly no matter what i do. I now weight 232. I can weight 3lbs less in one day but gain it again the next day. My belly is bloated and I am at my wits end. When the weight gain started after surgery, 2mths later i contacted the surgeon and the most they would offer me is a dietician. In all blew me off as maybe i was eating the wrong things, I need to know what to eat, when to eat it and what supplements I should take. I need to try something as I keep gaining. Oh and my thyroid also bottomed out after surgery so i am also on synthroid now. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Hello green1961,
Welcome to the EmpowHER community. That was a very wonderful thing that you did for your brother.
As we get older, losing weight, especially after menopause, can be difficult. Our metabolic rate slows and we do not burn calories like we did when we were young. Hypothyroidism can contribute to weight gain. So, it is very important that you are receiving the proper dose. This can be monitored by thyroid level blood tests.
I am concerned that you are having abdominal bloating and such fluctuations in weight.
Have you had a consultation with a gastroenterologist?

I had my blood levels checked in May of this year my doctor says it is okay. He has since retired and I don't have another yet. I do often have abdominal bloating but not always with gas. Yes I do have a fair bit of gas. Less if I take ox bile pills. I am more concerned about the weight gain, I can have say turkey dinner and gain 3 lbs the next day and in 2 days lose it again.... but most times i gain on a regular basis since 2012 when i had the surgery. My total weight gain since then is 60 to 70 lbs and I keep track of it on an app on my phone. My weight is constantly rising. I would like to know how i can successfully get my weight to start going down. I can do walking but with the menopause i get really hot and then prickly heat in my extremities... I sound like i am complaining ... well guess i am, but regardless i would do the same thing again for my brother. I have read a lot about issues after gall bladder removal and it seems to be an issue with weight for many. Is there foods I should never eat again and then maybe more of other foods that i should eat more of. I am willing to try anything at this time.

p.s. my brother contracted hep C through a contaminated blood transfusion over 25 years ago. By time he found out his liver was done.... he now has successfully been cured of hep c with the new drug regime that is out and is strong and healthy.
