Ok, so i was diagnosed with pmdd. I knew i had something because 2 weeks before my period its hell, anyway been placed on all of the depression meds you can imagine finally found the right one pristiq, the dr also wanted to check my progesterone levels and she informed me that they were low 1. This was 2 weeks before i started my period. She sent me to a compounding pharmacy and they put together progesterone. I started taking 2 weeks ago and feel ok. I also started weight watchers about 7 weeks ago and had steady loss every week. UNTIL 2 WEEKS ago, last week i gained 1.5 lbs and this week 3.5...... MY EATING HAS NOT CHANGED! I am frustrated, that is alot of weight to gain in 1 week, you would think that i was eating big macs every day. So, the question i have is, is this normal for one to gain weight on this type of med? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Were you able to lose weight once stopping the bioidentical progesterone?

I am in the same boat! It is horrible. Do you feel any better stopping the bio progesterone? I am so tired of not only gaining weight but feeling all flubby and loose and having my breasts be full like right after I had my children.

I was wondering if you went off of your Progesterone?

Yes...I'm so sorry for the delay. I weaned myself off of them and have been off for about 6 weeks now. I have not lost one pound but that horrible bloat is gone. I started having hot flashes but everything else is great! I highly recommend NOT going on those things. Just let nature take it's course!

I have been on Progesterone for 1 1/2 years and have gained 18 lbs! I workout 4 days a week for at least an hour to an hour 15 minutes. I'm so frustrated that I'm going to email my doctor to take me off these things! I have felt great since I've been on them (sleeping and functioning well) but I CAN'T STAND my weight gain ( all around the middle). I had to buy all new pants for the winter and even named her "Stella the Bella". what do you think i should do?

For me, progesterone has been quite a miracle. While I was perimenopausal it helped very much to reduce my unpleasant symptoms. I slept better, felt better, and had more regular periods. Now I'm menopausal and supplementing estradiol too. I had weight gain prior to using progesterone and was actually able to lose some of it after I started supplementing.

I have been reading some on here and I am having some of the same issues. I am 50 years old. I had a total hysterectomy when I was 29 due to lots of other issues. I was later put-on estrodial after having hot flashes. I have never had a problem with weight gain even after having 4 kids I was a size 2. That is until I started HRT. My husband who is 8 years younger started it and due to the obvious increase in his sex drive I figured I better get on board. I had no other issues, feeling tired or depressed ect. Just low libido. Now I have gained about 15 pounds and I am not a happy camper. Am also taking Testostrone which I have no issues with. I told the doctor today after reading different things that I didn't want to take the progesterone any longer and since I had a hysterectomy I really did not need it. I was met with alot of opposition. Can I not continue taking the estrodial and the Testostrone? They hare acting like I will shrivel up and die if I stop. HELP!!! I am so confused. Why do I have to take something that it causing me such distress in my mid section?

Hi. Have you had ALL your labs tested? Hormones are a delicate balance especially after menopause. There are so many variables such as cortisol, insulin, thyroid, progesterone, estradiol, DHEA, testosterone. All I can say here to everyone who is gaining weight and doing everything right, there is SOMETHING off on your hormones that needs to be fixed! You can use all the progesterone cream in the world and if you are still estrogen dominant or insulin resistant or one of the other hormones is out of balance, then nothing you do will help you lose. Make sure that all of these hormone levels are checked. I am dealing with all of this myself right now so I do understand. Best to everyone.
