I'm quite anxious because i've never been late in my life, i'm always early if anything, and i haven't had my period in about forty days. I'm really worried because i hadn't noticed but i weighed myself recently and i've gained a few pounds. I can't be pregnant right? I am a virgin. Thank you!

Hello Kim Seo Ra

Thank you for writing!

I know it's hard to be 15 and have questions like this that are hard to ask. You cannot be pregnant and your issue is very common.

Changes in lifestyle, stress or just a simple change in body chemistry can change the menstrual cycle. Most girls at age 15 often skip periods or are irregular. Your body is still growing and your hormones are still changing all the time.

If you don't get your period in the next month, it's a good idea to talk to someone in case you may have something going on with your hormone levels (again, this is common). Just explain to them what you explained to us. Nobody is going to think you are pregnant.

Best,

Susan

Hello M

You probably have nothing to fear. Periods when a teenager are often irregular. It can take several years for them to regulate. Some never do. And sometimes a regular period can change out of the blue - often due to a change in body chemistry.

This month might be due to stress, the Holidays, too many late nights or a temporary change in lifestyle. Or your hormones may be fluctuating. I'm sure your period will be along soon. If you still have concerns, mention this to your doctor on your next visit.
Best,
Susan

Anon,

There is a lot of information in this thread that can help. Please take the time to read through the comments. An occasional late period is not uncommon for teens and very young women. Many things can impact the menstrual cycle. If you have never had sex, you are not pregnant. It does not happen from fingering.

I’ve had my period since the middle of grade 6 and I am now in year 11, it is usually always in time within a couple of days but recently I had skipped my period for close to 2months and then I had it for 6days and now I’m a week late. I’ve never had sex. What could this be? G

Hello G

Hormonal fluctuations can happen at any time. It can be a little disconcerting but the body doesn't work like clockwork and these fluctuation are quite normal. Stress can also change the cycle. This may be what is happening with you. You can mention this to your doctor on your next visit to make sure all us well. Some blood tests can let you know if your hormone numbers are normal.

Best,
Susan
